Cowboys Linked to RB Dalvin Cook in Trade Rumor; Cost Only a 4th-Round Pick?

The speculation that connects Dalvin Cook of the Minnesota Vikings to Dallas marches on. Could the Cowboys at least cut “the cost in half” to make a Draft Night trade viable?

FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys are in the process of remaking their running backs room, with Ezekiel Elliott out the door, with no promises made to Tony Pollard beyond this season, and with the NFL Draft providing prospects who seem ripe for the picking.

And maybe all of that is why the speculation that connects Dalvin Cook of the Minnesota Vikings to Dallas marches on.

Yes, once again the subject of Dallas having been mentioned as a possible landing spot for him is being circulated, with part of the media reasoning being Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ love of the “splash move.” … but also with the media ignoring the fact that Cook’s contract has two years remaining at essentially $15 million APY.

Put aside the money for a moment, though, and consider this NFLAnalysis question: What could a trade between the Cowboys and Vikings look like? Going in with the understanding that the Vikings may be over a barrel and could end up cutting the star back, the outlet suggests offering a fourth- and a fifth-round pick in exchange for Cook and Minnesota’s sixth-round pick.

In other words, basically just a fourth-round pick. And at least we can say that that portion of this media proposal is appealing.

Unfortunately, this concept ignores the money. But we will play along in this regard: Would Cook, moving to a contender, re-do his deal? Is there a way for Minnesota to provide some financial relief? Assuming Cook is healthy and fully recovered from his labrum surgery, teams should be calling the Vikings. And if the price could really be just a fourth-round pick? At least in the case of the Cowboys one of the two “costs” has essentially been eliminated.
