Cowboys News: Dak Prescott-led workout drums up Ezekiel Elliott reunion speculation

Dallas Cowboys fans and the NFL world are still waiting patiently for Ezekiel Elliott to sign with another team. At this juncture, that might not happen until after the draft and there’s more clarity about which teams need backfield help.

While the Bills seemingly are no longer a potential destination, the Bengals, Chargers and Buccaneers could all use a running back.

Given the NFL’s unpredictable nature, you can’t rule out a surprise suitor emerging and ultimately landing the former Pro Bowler.

Might that team be the Cowboys? Neither Jerry Jones nor Stephen Jones shut the door on a reunion during the owner’s meetings, though it was disclosed Dallas never offered Elliott a paycut out of respect for the player.

It’s unclear what Elliott’s benchmark is in terms of salary, but the reunions speculated ratcheted up the last few days after the 27-year-old was spotted in the “Dak Yard” working out with some of his former teammates, including Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Jake Ferguson, Dennis Houston, and Simi Fehoko.

Former Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott working out with Dak Prescott
Of course, this could mean absolutely nothing.

Teams aren’t permitted to host organized practices until the offseason program, so players are free to workout with whomever they choose. Micah Parsons recently worked out with Lions running back D’Andre Swift, and Elliott is obviously still close with his former teammates, with Prescott chief among them.

Elliott’s been putting in the work since he was released. He even posted a workout video on Instagram in the aftermath of the move. Still a free agent, is it really that surprising Elliott linked up with one of his good friends and former teammates for a workout in the Dak Yard? Not from where we’re standing.

Regardless, this will still drum up the reunion rumors.

That’s the way the world works nowadays, even if it’s ultimately not realistic. A recently-released player is seen running through drills with former teammates during the offseason is something fans and the media always eat up.

That said, it’s hard to envision Zeke circling back to the Cowboys. The team already has $10 million committed to Tony Pollard via the franchise tag, and they are widely projected to select a running back during the draft in two weeks.

As cool as it was to see Ellliott reunite with Dak and CeeDee Lamb, we wouldn’t view these photos as anything more than hungry NFL players wanting to stay fresh linking up for a workout during the dog days of the offseason.
