Though a huge win, retaining Dan Quinn hasn’t overshadowed the Dallas Cowboys’ decision to dismiss Kellen Moore as offensive coordinator.

Many theories have been floated as to why Dallas cut Moore loose, but there’s no sense crying over spilled milk at this point, right? Moore has taken the same position with the Chargers, and Dak Prescott will undertake learning a somewhat-new offense under Mike McCarthy and new OC Brian Schottenheimer.

No one will be more impacted by the offensive shake-up than Prescott, who’s coming off a down season. The heavily-scrutinized quarterback led the league in interceptions despite missing five games, and finished with his lowest passing yards per game (238.3) since his sophomore season in 2017.

Perhaps that prompted the change, but there’s no denying Prescott enjoyed significant success during Moore’s reign as offensive coordinator.

Appearing at the Super Bowl on Thursday, Prescott weighed in on Moore’s departure, and his answer might sound fan’s alarm bells.

• Is Prescott’s response a nothing-burger? Is he merely referring to his relationship with Moore, or his fondness for Moore’s play-calling ability. Either way, it probably isn’t ideal when your star quarterback is “upset” over the OC leaving. Hopefully, Dak isn’t actually up in arms over the decision.
• Don’t look now, but CeeDee Lamb’s rookie contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the 2023 season. Unless, of course, the Cowboys make the no-brainer decision to exercise the fifth-year option — which are only available to first-round picks — and eventually extend the superstar receiver.
• Should Dallas pick up Lamb’s fifth-year, it will cost them $17.99 million in 2024. With one Pro Bowl nod on his resume (he was a replacement for the Super Bowl bound Cooper Kupp last year), the price on Lamb’s option is now the same as the transition tag for wide receivers. May 1 is the deadline for Dallas to exercise the option. Should be the easiest decision of the offseason.

• Following the announcement of the 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame class, which included Cowboys greats DeMarcus Ware and Chuck Howley, it’s important to know who’s eligible for the ballot next year. The list includes Julius Peppers, who ranks fourth all-time in sacks, Antonio Gates, who’s third all time among tight ends in catches, and seventh all time among all pass-catchers in touchdown catches. Other notables include Andrew Luck, Jamaal Charles, and Sebastian Janikowski.
• The Jets cleaned up at the NFL Honors in terms of rookie accolades. Wideout Garrett Wilson took home Offensive Rookie of the Year, while Sauce Gardner (both top-10 picks in the 2022 draft) nabbed Defensive Rookie of the Year after he cemented himself as one of the game’s premier cornerbacks.
