Former Cowboys pass rusher pleaded no contest to a felony DUI charge stemming from a 2021 incident, according to TMZ Sports.
The 33-year-old was sentenced Friday inside a Northern California courtroom to 12 months in jail and five years supervised probation. Smith’s initial sentence was for 16 months in prison before his plea agreement.
Smith was taken into custody following the hearing and will immediately begin serving his sentence.
The ex-NFL edge rusher was charged with one felony charge of drunk driving causing injury for an incident in Dec. 2021 in Redwood City, Calif. He allegedly crashed his truck into a stopped vehicle on a freeway exit ramp. The driver of the other vehicle reportedly suffered injuries to their back, wrist, knee, leg and foot in the crash.
Smith was a first-round draft pick out of Missouri in 2011 by the San Francisco 49ers. His career was derailed due to legal issues and he missed four full seasons. Smith joined the Cowboys in 2020 and started in 16 games for Dallas.
